YARD SALE SATURDAY~ VINTAGE EDITION

Hey all~ back with another installation of yard sale saturday!
Here is what came home with me this week!!
Let me say that this one was both outside and in the house. I can usually find some older, vintagey stuff at these kind of sales. And this one was no exception~
First up, some old kids books from the mid 1950's. I just adore the  illustrations in these old books! And I also like the sometimes scribbling I find from previous little owners~

A vintage brooch that looks like a snowflake.

Some beautiful ladies, and a little Dutch girl from Occupied Japan...

An old milk bottle and a tub of old buttons...

And lastly, a little girl cabinet card, and a new Batik journal in a pretty blue with turtles all over it. Living by the ocean as I do, and being that this community is vey active in saving the turtles and their nests, I am surprised that this journal wasnt snatched up the minute the doors were opened.

 This sale combined 2 of my fav things, yard sales and vintage collectables! And everything you see here** a grand total of jusr under $11.00!!

Mimis' Anniversary Card

My sister and her Husband celebrated their wedding anniversary last month.
 So this is the little card that I sent them.

The sweet little lady is a Kraftin Kimmie stamp. I love her wish stick skirt. I had to glitter it after I used a pale greay Copic underneath. It was N1. The sentiment was something I had printed form a digi stamp a while back. Dont know how its from.
Copic colors used were:
R08, R20, G24. E40, E53, E17, E000, E11,

YARD SALE SATURDAY

Today was an awesome yard sale day! we had so many to choose from, it was like Christmas morning to me! Honestly, I would rather shop at yard sales than the mall~
My husband and I both say its our favorite time of the week! Its the beginning of the weekend, we get to spend some time together, we bargain hunt, and then go and get breakfast before we head home with our treasures. We pretty much laugh the whole time, and we dont want it to end.
First up today was a community wide sale not far form our house, and boy did we score big here! I would guess that about 20 homes participated, and many of them you could walk from one to the other. We both found some awesome things, and I even found some new things that may become gifts in the future...

This photo has a brand new hand made dish towel with a crocheted hangar and a pretty cookie and tea pattern- price 10 cents! The other is a long sleeve T shirt for me with seaside themed embroidery on it- price 50 cents.

Tiny clothespins to paint ($1.25 for 3 packs), new ice trays to make homemade pesto for the freezer (25 cents), a lined basket ($1).

Beaded lampshade for $2.00.

Iron  and beaded candle holder, $2.00. This will make a home on the ledge by my bathtub~

3 small wine glasses. My husband found these, as he is starting to make his own wine, and thought the little glasses would be great to taste the different wines. 2 of the glasses have the prettiest etching of a ship on them. 75 cents.

A like new magazine rack for $1.00!! This house also had thee cutest puppies for sale-- I may be back to that house sooner rather than later!!

 

A brand new, with tags, Vera Bradley lookalike bag for $3.00. This will be a Christmas gift for my daughter, as she loves mine, which looks pretty similar.

also for her, a "Friends" cookbook. This was a real score for us, as Theresa loves cookbooks, and is really into watching old "Friends" reruns lately.  New condition. That was 50 cents.

How cute is this? From Hallmark, you can see it above in its original box which had a $6.95 price on it. We paid 50 cents. An egg salt and pepper shaker set! OMG- so cute. Here it is closed~

We also got the Rubbermaid pitcher and a magazine holder that are in above photos for a quarter each. Not shown, a baby gate to keep our pups contained, as someone is always chewing on the ones we have~ Berklee, are you listening?? HAHA. $1.50. And a large wine making jug that holds 6 gallons of homemade wine for $15.00. That would cost about $50-$60 new.
I think this was a pretty great day, dont you?

Thanks For Waiting For Me

Hi all! I am now back from my not so little hiatus. It was a busy summer, and a sad one. My Dad passed away after a long illness at the beginning of the summer. Something like that surely takes the wind right out of your sails. Besides many other things, I had lost my creativity. I would go into the art studio and kinda just sit there.
I also spent much of the rest of the summer in New York, where I am orginally from, spending time with my Mom, and my oldest son who lives there also. I also got to spend some nice time with all of my extended family. My daughter actually stayed there with her Nana, for about 2 months. This good family time was great for all of us. We brought Nana back home with us when we left NYC. She stayed for 2 weeks and had a nice time. Some fresh ocean air is good for the soul.
Now that fall is upon us, I am back to crafting. And like the photo above, I want to thank all of you for sticking with me.
This was a card I made for a good family friend. It was the first time I made this type of card, and saw the tutorial on a Whiff Of Joy blog post a few months back. I used a Magnolia image, Basic Grey papers and Copics of course. The top two sentiments are from Stampin Up Sets.

I wrote her a message on the back of the card, although if you write rather small, you could do it on one of the pull ups.

Taking a little hiatus

Secrets Of The Sea

I have just finished my tags for a swap by Red Lead of St. Louis. I love to shop online with them, and would love to one day visit their store. They love vintage, as I do, so maybe its better I dont live anywhere near St. Louis. Well, anyhow, they talked about another swap, this time the subject being the sea. Since I live in a beach and river community, I was instantly intrigued~

I have participated in swaps before, but not for quite a while. Sometimes I got great stuff in return, but there were times the stuff I received was frankly- junk. I even got some clearance stuff from Big Lots when everything was to be hand made.  But I knew that this was to be a good one~ or at least I hope so. You had to make 3 tags with a rather large size tag, something like 4 1/2 by 8. You needed to use at least one of their stamps, and hopefully, also a collage sheet image.
I decided to make 4, so I could keep one of mine for me! I made each a little different.
Here they are~

I think they turned out great. I used some Artisan Inks and some air brush inks for the backgrounds. I wet the tags, and then spritzed the colors on with reckless abandon~ LOL! When dry, I stamped my images, then added the collage sheet pictures, which are adorable by the way, and added random embellishments.
I Love the tiny pom pom trim on the bottom of each tag. I dont remember where I got it, but I have been hoarding it for a long time! Dont worry- I still have some left!

Cooking Scrapbook Pages

We had our monthly class this week, I was teaching, and we chose the theme "cooking". While vintage style is my favorite, and I had many vintage cooking ideas in my head, when I saw these bright , cheerful colors in Michaels, I had to go with them. I thought they looked very summer-like, and the pattrerned paper was really cute. So my vintage will wait for another month.

We also went old school as far as hand cutting out all the images~ no Cricut used here! Since the images are fairly large, there was no complaining from our group of ladies-LOL.
All paper is from Michaels, the patterened paper is from thier own Recollections line. I think the cardstock is Bazzill. Here is one of the pages, cute huh?
The spoon and the mat in the bowl are not adhered to anything, this way if you wanted to write a recipe on it, you could take it out as needed to read it, and then return the mat to the bowl. The spoon was stamped with an older SU background woodgrain stamp.

Some of the edges were dusted with Chalk ink for definition.
The opposite page can hold many photos, recipes, kitchen notes, or a combination of all of those. Our group likes to do layouts that can hold several photos, so we oblige as much as possible.

Stamps on this page are by Crafty Secrets. Twine is from the Twinery. I am not happy with the stapled looked of the tags, so I had the class use a hole punch on theirs. I will have to help mine along somehow.
